Competition hots up for online regional mags

The launch of a new online magazine for Manchester The Natter means that the competition is already hotting up for online regional journalism.

The site, set up by former Manchester Evening News journalists Diane Cooke and Eric Jackson, is distinguishing itself from its rivals by carving out distinctive editorial territory. ‘You won’t see us giving chapter and verse about hospital closures in Oldham, which you’d look for in the MEN, or obsessing about the swankiest new restaurants, like Manchester Confidential,‘ said editor Jackson, promising to cover instead the region’s ‘extraordinary people’ and ‘offbeat events and stories’.
